Possession or Distribution –

Marijuana, Methamphetamine, Cocaine . . .

The client – a professional, money-maker with all the stuff goes to Vegas for a weekend with old college buddies, tries a little meth at the party,  and away he goes. The roughneck trying to bring in the well, needs a little up and up to stay awake.  Drug abuse affects all families and all walks of life.  From Mom, to the preacher, to the professional –  the abuse of drugs, both illicit and prescription, is one of the greatest health crises facing Texans.  The government, rather than dealing with drug addictions through the health system for the disease that it is, would rather incarcerate the people that have used them.  The Texas solution to drug addiction is abstinence through incarceration.

The Dallas lawyers at Jackson Law strongly oppose the “the war on drugs.”  Believing this has done far more harm than good. Vast resources have been expended from the costs of law enforcement, the judicial system, to the costs of incarceration to no avail.  As Dallas Lawyers, we take price in aggressively defending our clients from drug charges.

At Jackson Law, we take special pride in aggressively defending drug charges. Most drug charges will be rather minor – possession of a small amount of a controlled substance. Or, the drug charge may be more severe from distribution to manufacturing. Generally, the severity of the criminal charge increases depending upon the type and quantity of drugs a person is arrested with and whether or not the person is charged with possession or distribution.

At Jackson Law we will fight hard and long to protect your rights. You need an attorney that understand the Texas Rules of Criminal Procedure, the Rules of Evidence, the law and will apply it to protect you.  The most important goal, getting the best possible result for our client. We will examine the details of your arrest for possible suppression, bring in expert testimony as is necessary, and if the facts are against us, get the case diverted, bond reduction, and/or ultimately trying this case before the jury.

At Jackson Law we support the legalization of marijuana and the licensed cultivation of marijuana in Texas.  “I’d rather tax it, I’d rather standardize it, I’d rather control it than spend the vast dollars on police enforcement, law enforcement interdiction and the waist of judicial resources.”  Here is an article from the marijuana policy project: http://www.mpp.org/states/texas/

On December 15, 2014, Rep. Joe Moody introduced HB 507, which would impose a $100 civil fine on the possession of a personal amount of marijuana in Texas. This important bill, supported by members of Texans for Responsible Marijuana Policy, would allow individuals to avoid arrest, possible jail time, and the stigma of a criminal conviction for possessing an ounce or less of marijuana. Law enforcement estimates that in 2012, there were over 70,000 cases in which people were either arrested or cited for marijuana possession — wasting valuable law enforcement time and placing futures at risk.

This bill is the first piece of legislation following MPP’s announcement earlier this year that we have begun a multi-year legislative campaign in Texas to improve state laws related to marijuana. Our efforts also include establishing a compassionate medical marijuana program and legalizing and controlling the marijuana market for adults 21 and older, similarly to alcohol.
